Recent evidence suggests that even a mild Vitamin A deficiency can increase morbidity and morality in children. MASARD, our partners in India, have been conducting tests to identify the children and pregnant women that are vitamin A deficient in the villages Salt of the Earth support. Through your donations, MASARD have been able to administer Vitamin A multi nutrient doses at no cost to the patient.

In January, a mobile clinic doctor and a community health worker (both funded by Salt of the Earth donations) visited the villages and made a list of the individuals who needed the supplement. Since taking the tablets, people’s livelihoods have reportedly increased.

The children who were previously identified as deficient and have been taking the tablets, have demonstrated a decrease in common illness such as viral fevers and better overall immunity has been evident.

Albendazole de-worming tablets are also being administered by our doctors on a six month basis, further protecting some of the villages most vulnerable members.
